Outreach

SFC’s Outreach Program serves people who are experiencing homelessness and congregating in visible areas in Downtown Denver, such as on the 16th Street Mall, surrounding parks, and hidden campsites not intended for human habitation.

The primary focus for the Outreach team is to build relationships with those living on the streets, with the goals of:

– Honoring one’s humanity

– Increasing one’s resiliency and capacity to value and believe in oneself

– Stabilizing medical, mental health, and living situations

– Establishing opportunities for substance treatment and employment

 

The Outreach team offers the following services necessary to help reach these goals:

• Assistance obtaining state ID cards, birth certificates and other legal documents
• Assistance obtaining benefits (Social Security, Disability, Food Stamps, and Medicaid)
• Medical Referrals
• Mental Health Referrals
• Substance Treatment Referrals
• Employment Referrals
• Veterans Affairs Referrals
• Referrals and transportation to overnight shelters
• Legal Referrals to resolve municipal court cases
• Family Reunification

 

The Outreach Team also listens to the concerns of downtown businesses regarding the homeless community and assist whenever they can to build bridges between the two groups. Outreach Team members also represent St. Francis Center at several community, business and service provider meetings to give voice to those living on the streets.
