Programs and Services
St. Francis Center offers a wide range of services in its Day Program:
Basic Services enables men and women who are homeless meet basic needs for day-to-day survival. These services include separate showers for men and women; haircuts; an opportunity to earn new or cleaner clothes by helping with chores at SFC; storage for one bag of belongings; access to phones for local calls; and use of St. Francis Center’s mailing address and phone number to receive mail, stay in touch with family, or search for a job or housing.
Nursing Services provides a setting for guests to meet with a Registered Nurse for triage and treatment of simple physical complaints, ongoing assessments for hypertension and hyperglycemia, as well as wellness counseling and referrals to doctors, dentists and substance abuse treatment providers.
Social Services offers information and referrals to St. Francis Center guests and others regarding housing, community resources for food, clothing and employment, benefits acquisition, and access to health and mental health care. In addition, Social Services offers payee representation and an opportunity to participate in a savings incentive program. Assistance with long distance calls is also available.
Adjunct Services is a collaborative effort between members of the wider community and St. Francis Center to bring expanded health services, mental health services, veterans' assistance and wholesome meals to the day facility on designated days during the week.
In addition to the Day Program services, SFC offers the following programs:
Outreach Program serves people who are homeless and congregating on the 16th Street Mall and surrounding parks (downtown Denver), as well as downtown businesses. The six outreach workers and two outreach case managers provide information and referrals to those who need help locating/accessing resources to transition out of homelessness. They also listen to the concerns of downtown businesses regarding the homeless community and assist whenever they can to build “bridges” between the two groups.
Employment Program connects employers with SFC guests for both long-term and day labor jobs. Employees receive an orientation that includes information about appropriate work behavior and attire, as well as financial management.
Housing Program provides permanent housing and case management for participants who are ready to move to a more structured environment. SFC case managers help ensure a successful outcome by providing assistance with setting goals, obtaining financial benefits, stabilizing physical, mental health and substance abuse concerns, and by encouraging participants to develop their life skills by pursuing opportunities for enrichment through continuing education, recreational activities, volunteerism and meaningful work.
