About St. Francis Center
St. Francis Center (SFC) is a not-for-profit organization with its roots in the Episcopal Church. It has been a place of refuge for people who are homeless for 25 years.
St. Francis Center is open to both men and women in the metro Denver area. It provides a safe and welcoming environment for people during the day when other shelters are closed or overcrowded. At SFC, guests* have the opportunity to talk with a social worker, nurse, mental health counselor and employment specialist. Meeting with these professionals is a first step toward transitioning out of homelessness.
St. Francis Center is open year-round and serves a daily average of more than 500-700 people.
Led by Chairman of the Board, Wright "Kip" Travis, and Executive Director, Tom Luehrs, the St. Francis Center team consists of 12 Board members, 32 employees, and over 100 dedicated volunteers.
St. Francis Center's funding comes from the following sources: grants from federal, state and county governments; grants from foundations; donations from individuals and the faith based community; and fund raising efforts. Eighty-five percent of all funds goes directly into SFC programs and services.
*SFC staff and volunteers refer to those they serve as "guests" because of their strong commitment
to hospitality, welcoming everyone who comes and treating each one with dignity and respect.
